To inform the public about modern slavery, Amnesty International launched a web-based media campaign. Along with 188 Amnesty activists, we carried out an overnight promotion. We used eBay as a channel to spread Amnesty’s message. In hundreds of live auctions, women were offered for sale, disguised as popular eBay products. During each auction, the message was related to the product category. At second glance, consumers discovered the true meaning of the ad and realized how frighteningly easy it is today to “buy” a wife.
